Dianna Shyne

Guest Speaker - March 18, 2010

Pursuing her passion for art, Dianna Shyne spent nearly thirty years working in acrylic, oil and watercolor, studying for over 15 years with several renowned Russian Impressionist teachers. She has been a full time professional artist since 1994.

In 1998, Dianna settled on acrylic paint as her medium of choice and has never looked back. The medium allows her the flexibility to interweave her impressionist training with contemporary techniques and subject matter. Richly textured surfaces, compelling compositions, and dynamic color interplay form the basis of Dianna’s unique style. Her subject matter is as varied as her passions and interests. Inspiration for her paintings comes from childhood memories, friendships, travels, fascinations, and dreams. A recent painting trip to the Yunnan Province of China has provided rich painting material for her work for years to come.

With over 30 solo and two person exhibitions, more than a dozen top National awards, and articles in many local and National publications including The Artist Magazine and in Northlight Books, Dianna has also become a popular workshop teacher and show juror. She has given classes and demonstrations both in her home town Seattle, and in areas as remote as Nunavut Territories and as historically rich as Xian China.

To Dianna, teaching is a joy as well as an art. Conveying not only theoretical art concepts but also delving into the deeper issues of creativity and the ongoing artistic journey, Dianna’s classes are both informative and inspirational. She has recently published a workbook that encapsulates her teaching ideas.

Dianna is a member of Women Painters of Washington, and a signature member and past president of the Northwest Watercolor Society. She currently lives in Washington State and paints in her studio on Camano Island.

WANTED: Volunteer to Chair EAFA Digital Design Committee

Do you enjoy working with personal computers and smart, friendly artists who share your interests? If so, here’s your chance! Longtime Digital Design Committee (DDC) Chair Fred Edwards is leaving this important post effective June 1, 2010. We need to find his successor as soon as possible so that Fred can begin passing on his wisdom and experience to his replacement.

The DDC provides research, review, and recommendations to the EAFA Board of Directors on ideas and technical services related to digital imaging, databases, website development, centralized data management, membership, show entry systems, and other computer-based initiatives. You do not have to be an expert in all these areas, but you should be comfortable discussing them with and coordinating the activities of people who are. This implies long familiarity with personal computers and an interest in their usefulness and application to the management of EAFA’s membership program, annual shows, and Website development.

The Digital Design Committee Chair serves as a voting member of the EAFA Board of Directors. In addition to the Chair, the Digital Design Committee includes the Treasurer, Membership Chair, Editor, Web Master, and Show Entry Manager. If you are interested in serving EAFA in this vital position, please contact Steve Whitney by email stevewhy42@hotmail.com) or phone (425-485-6446) for details.
