Bellevue City Hall then to Bellevue Art Museum VIVID
9/11 IMAGES Each of us has vivid images of September 11th frozen in our memory. For everyone, it is a different scene, hero, song, or quote. This is evident in the work of eleven Eastside Association of Fine Arts (EAFA) members whose work will appear at the Bellevue City Hall from Monday, August 18 to Friday, September 5. Thanks to efforts by Lucile Berkowitz and Joan Frey, the exhibit will then travel to the Bellevue Art Museum where it will hang from September 8 to September 22. Talented local artists include: Dan Riley, Ellen Williams, Christie Forrestal, Isabel Stout, Linda Demetre, Cece Teddy, Loretta Overen-Riegel, Elaine Mahler, Don Stewart, Lucille Berkowitz, and Lyla Jacobsen. The September 11th Exhibit includes paintings, which represent each artist’s response to the tragic events that changed us profoundly. Artists were asked to explain what inspired their paintings, and the responses were deeply personal and touching. Isabel Stout said: “It was going to be a happy-flower painting to get my mind off the panic and pain suffered by so many. I had no idea I would not be able to do that. I was compelled to put those two towers on paper and then immediately destroy them by overturning my palette on top of the towers, and then finishing them off through anger and sadness with paint and brush. The result: chaos!” Lyla Jacobsen calls her work, ‘… and from the rubble’ saying, “From the rubble does one dare to hope for a collective human kindness?” Ellen Williams says of her work, “I still feel deep sadness when I view this image.” This exhibit demonstrates the inspired vision of many talented artists and is worth visiting!
